3 x 3% - the ultimate life hack
The ultimate life hack: 3 x 3%.
Super simple. Here's how it works:
Pick 3 areas of your life.
(e.g. Work. Family. Health. Social Life. Influence. Impact. Travel.)
Make it your mission to be in the top 3% of those areas for effort.
Of course, you have to define what 'top 3%' means to you.
‘Effort’ is the critical word.
Because you can't always control outcomes.
But you can always control your thoughts and actions.
And thought x action = effort.
3 is a nice, small number.
In our circa 80< years, we can master 3 things.
Four might be doable.
I doubt anything above four is.
Next, rather than rely exclusively on an arbitrary goal and timeline…
Look at those 3 areas, and ask yourself:
“What habits does someone in the top 3% have?”
“What habits does someone in the top 3% not have?”
I'm not saying ‘copy my life’. Très egotistical, mon ami.
But context is always helpful, so here are my 3:
Work, family, fitness.
That's it.
I don't have 100,000 followers.
I don't have an enviable social life.
I don't have an enviable Google Maps timeline.
But in a room of 100 people...
I truly believe I'm making more effort than 97 of them to do the following:
-create as much functional fitness as I can*
-become as skilful, knowledgable, and valuable as I can in my work.
-be kind, loving, and present when I'm with my family.
*so I can still move effectively when I'm in my 80s and beyond.
Aim for the top 1% and you'll wind up depressed.
Aim for the top 3% and you'll hit the top 10%, no problem.
As you move through life...
You'll find time to slot in some things that aren't in your 3x3%.
But if you're 'focusing' on everything, you're focusing on nothing.
